Worship & Music
The Worship & Music Ministry shall assist the Congregation Council in seeing that the worship
services are conducted regularly and in accordance with the liturgy of the ELCA, that competent
worships assistants (e.g., liturgists, acolytes, communion assistants, lectors, altar guild,
ushers and musicians) are recruited and trained, and that all hymnals and other devotional
materials are provided and properly maintained. This committee shall supervise and encourage the
choirs and other musical groups of the congregation. At the request of the pastor(s), organist or
choir director(s) it shall furnish music supplies appropriate for use in the worship services
of the congregation. This ministry will make recommendations on staffing needs, provide input
on job descriptions and performance evaluations.

This ministry team meets one time per month on the second Tuesday 8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
A sub-committee functioning under the auspices of the Worship and Music Ministry is the worship
assistant scheduling team. This team does the scheduling for usher coordinators, ushers, greeters,
readers, acolytes, liturgists, altar guild, communion assistants, and offering counters. This team
consists of: Penny Dixon, Marge Kooda, Dick Lindquist, Jim Sahr, Diane Sheldon, and Cathi Bean.

Opportunities for Music at First Lutheran
Mixed women and men's adult choir
This choir meets each week for rehearsal on Sundays between worship services (9:30 a.m. - 10:45 a.m.)
The choir alternates between the 8:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services singing special music. Everyone is
invited to attend. This choir presents an annual Christmas Cantata which is very much enjoyed by the community.
During Christmas of 2003 the choir presented the Cantata 5 different times to accommodate community attendance.
King's Men choir
This choir is for the men only and meets at the church on Thursday evenings from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. They
provide special music periodically at the worship services.
Adult Bell Choir
This choir meets for rehearsals on Tuesday evenings at 6:00 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. The bell choir provides special
music at worship throughout the year. This choir also participates in the annual Christmas Cantata.
Youth Bell Choir
This choir is open to the youth of the congregation who are in the 7th - 12th grades. Their rehearsal time is
on Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. This group functions in short commitments, such as: 6 weeks of
rehearsals, followed by presenting special music at worship and then a break.
Praise Group
This smaller mixed choir leads worship at the praise service during the second Sunday of each month. They
rehearse the Thursday evening prior to worship.
